English Fitness Classes in Budapest

Are you looking for English fitness classes in Budapest? Same!

Personally, I have a lot of baggage with the idea of fitness (think: endless humiliation in gym class as a chubby kid), so I’m still on a journey of seeing exercise as a way to honor my body. What better way to do that than to reframe it as joyful movement? I believe you don’t need a personal trainer/traditional gym membership to find a way to exercise, so I wanted to put together some of the fitness classes I’ve tried or heard about!

Although I’ve picked up functional Hungarian during my time here, I remember what it felt like my first year–when I was so intimidated to try any class in another language. So I’ve tried to source a wide range of English classes! Even if the instructor doesn’t speak English exclusively in the class, they can at least translate and check in with you to make sure you understand what’s going on. Let’s dive in!

Yoga/Pilates

As a way to increase flexibility and focus, you might seek out restorative yoga with an English speaker. The benefits of yoga are far reaching, and there is quite an appreciative community in Budapest! Breathe in, breathe out, and perfect those yoga poses! For English yoga classes in Budapest, look into:

Aerial Fitness

Exercise up in the air! Going to Aerial Yoga mixes athleticism with artistry. If you want to channel your inner circus performer, try aerial silks or hoop, or if you’d like to improve your flexibility/strength, try out aerial pilates or yoga! Not only are these classes an amazing full body workout, but they’re something a bit different to add to your repetoire.

Dance

Dancing has long been one of my favorite forms of exercise! I always find freedom and variety in how you can express yourself through the music. Here are some English dance classes that have gotten on my radar:

  • Dance with Lena offers jazz, funk, and high-heels classes in English. As her classes have expanded, she now offers both beginner and intermediate sessions, so you can join no matter your skill level!
  • If you enjoy vintage dancing, the Facebook group Swing Dance in Budapest is a prime resource for swing/lindy hop classes and social dances.
  • Master Dance has a large and active community in Budapest, focusing on bringing hip-hop and street dances to anyone who wants to learn.

Salsa/Latin Dance: There are a few venues in Budapest that put on social dances on the weekends. I know you all know one of the best ways to work up a sweat is on the dance floor! Look into the events at

CrossFit

For a workout that’s synonymous with community, CrossFit offers high intensity workouts that are constantly varied. You can also look into them for nutritional advice or private training sessions, if you’re looking for a personal trainer.

Different Crossfit communities have popped up and are thriving around the city, often made up of international visitors and residents. If you’re ready to get into Crossfit, try Reebok CrossFit Duna, CrossFit Glasshouse, or CrossFit B’Bros

Trampoline Jumping

Yes, you read that right! This might be the most entertaining way to work on your core. Jumping BP puts on explosive, high-energy classes where you follow basic choreo on your own mini trampoline. This is definitely not your childhood trampoline experience. Bring your positive engery and brace yourself for some elastic fun! Check out their IG for booking and more info.

Budapest Gyms

If you’re still craving a traditional workout experience in a downtown gym, here are some to consider! Continue your journey with body-building and strength training in the city center with one of these gyms!

  • Life 1: This is my top pick because of their wide range of group exercise classes! Spinning, TRX, dance aerobics, and others are all part of the program!
  • 4% Fitness: This gym has established itself as a trendy fitness center in Budapest. With multiple locations across the city, find one that’s convenient for you!
  • Nr1Fitness: If you’re watching your wallet, Nr.1Fitness has the basic amenities and a friendly price tag.
  • GoActive: A colorful gym in the city center, close to Deák Square, with group classes and even a pool onsite.

There are plenty of ways to enjoy your physical training without a traditional gym–whether with aerial gymnastics, balanced yoga classes, expressive dance, or beyond…check out these English fitness classes in Budapest! Happy sweating!
