Budapest Secret Garden Jazz Concert

Listening to music from the Budapest Jazzhouse always makes for a good evening, and doing it in a secret garden is almost magical.

The Budapest Jazzhouse originally started as a jam between musician friends, and eventually grew to intimate living-room concerts of some of Budapest’s best jazz talent (you can read more in the WeLoveBudapest article I wrote here). And while the Jazzhouse concerts are normally lovely, I really appreciated this new outdoor setting. I took a bus up to the Buda hills to the secret location, and followed the jazz music playing on the breeze. Soon I wound up in a charming private garden.

The hanging lights and lush fruit trees gave the garden a cozy (and yet uncrowded) feel. Musicians rotated on and off the stage while spectators sipped wine from the sponsoring Dubicz winery and chatted. It was just as magical as promised. And even more than the music, it was such a nice experience to have people together and relaxed again. To see people not afraid of each other, but instead relishing community and company (with plenty of hand sanitzer, of course, haha).

Each of the wines from the Dubicz winery tasted like different flavors of summer!

The event had thoughtful touches: From the colorful carpets-turned-seats in the seating area, to the much needed bug spray, it felt like a lot of effort had gone into making the outdoor jazz concert a comfortable evening for everyone.

If you’re a jazz lover in Budapest, the good news is that the Jazzhouse is hoping to make this a regular event over the summer! So if you’re interested in an intimate, outdoor jazz concert, follow their Facebook page and keep an eye out for more events!
