Cruise Ship Life: A New Chapter

Hello all!

I know it’s been some time since an update, and there’s a good reason for that: I’ve started a new job. A dream job, actually. A job I never even knew existed until a few months ago.

I’ve started a career in the cruise industry as a Travel Guide*!

Basically, my job is to inform guests about the history, attractions, and practical info of each port we visit. It’s endless research, presentation making, public speaking, and relationship building all rolled into one…and I feel like I’ve finally found my calling.

I’ve never worked on cruise ships before, so the past two months have been a whirlwind of getting my sea legs, learning ship lingo, building relationships, trying to decorate my cabin, and learning as much as I can about all of the ports so that I can give the best info possible to the guests. For my current contract, I’m exploring Alaska (we just got back from a 28-day voyage up to the Arctic Circle, actually, but more on that later!), but who knows where the future will take me!

To be honest with you guys, I’m so excited to share, but at the same time, these experiences still seem so precious. The last couple of years have been turbulent, with visa struggles in Hungary, relocating from Budapest, and a seemingly-endless soul-crushing job search. This job–this new opportunity in life–is truly more than I could have asked for or imagined.

If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to live on a cruise ship or work in the cruise industry…well, I guess we’re going to find out together! Please feel free to share this blog with any of your friends or family who might be curious as well!

Let’s set sail!

Xx Denae
